publisher's desk
toolkit
Inside Children's Publishing: a publisher's toolkit for getting your picture book made, seen and sold.
Written by a children's publisher, for Muslim authors and everyone telling the stories children need.
Launch Kit · 18 templates · 2 guides
Instant PDF · UK & US edition
Three guides. Pick your set.
Start with the toolkit, then add the guide that fits where you are: writing for Muslim children, or taking your book to fairs, shops and other countries.
Inside Children's Publishing Toolkit
The 38-page Launch Kit with 18 templates, plus guides to how publishing works and where the opportunities are.
Writing for Muslim Children
The data, the tropes to retire, authenticity checklists and how to pitch Muslim stories to any list.
The Book Fairs & Rights Pack
Sixteen book fairs explained, Rights 101, and 38 trade contacts for rights, bookshops and distribution.
Picture books don't sell like novels.

A four-year-old never buys a book. Parents, grandparents, teachers and librarians do, each for different reasons and in different places. That's why most book-marketing advice, written for adult fiction, quietly fails picture book authors.
And if you're writing Muslim characters, the odds are steeper still. Around one in ten school-age children in England and Wales is Muslim, yet the books on most shelves rarely show them. The toolkit shows you how publishing really works, where your book fits, and how to reach the grown-ups who buy.

Launch & grow
Follow the 90-day plan, and use the directory to choose your next opportunities.
Every picture book deserves its readers.
I'm Sajeda Faraz, a children's publisher. My MA research looked at why so few children's books show Muslim children, and what it takes to change that. I made this toolkit so more picture books, especially the stories our children need to see themselves in, reach the families, classrooms and libraries they were written for.

What exactly do I get?
Two instant PDF downloads: the 38-page Picture Book Launch Kit with 18 fill-in templates, and a 17-page guides book with Inside Children's Publishing and the Opportunities Directory 2026–27. The one-page launch checklist is included too.
Is it only for Muslim authors or Islamic books?
No. Everything works for any picture book, and every author is welcome.
My book is already out. Is it too late?
Not at all. Start with positioning, then go straight to schools, bookshops and the opportunities directory.
Do I need a big following?
No. The toolkit focuses on schools, events, bookshops, libraries, prizes and targeted outreach.
Does it work outside the UK?
Yes. It's a UK & US edition, and the directory covers both.
What's the Little Hibba Academy?
It's where I offer ongoing support: a £47-a-month membership with live feedback calls and an always-current opportunities board, and a small Academy cohort that ends in a Pitch Day. You don't need it to use the toolkit. Find out more.
